Applied Energy - Chapter 1

Whenever man has looked towards the stars with intelligence, seeking knowledge that would be of benefit to development, there have always been considerable advances made in other areas of understanding. Cultures and races have flourished producing improvements in all areas of social exchange and growth which can easily be seen in art, literature, political structure, economics, mathematics and religious outlook.
Examples of these can be seen without difficulty in our recorded history and offer the opportunity of greatly rewarding study as to the nature of man that many who work in this area have found.

A constructive regard of the universe undertaken by any group or race always marks a period of significant evolutionary growth and without difficulty this can be seen occurring in Western development. Each period of such growth is unique to the group or race and the knowledge being looked for can differ widely. This often results in somewhat insular development that would obviously benefit had other understandings been included.

The purpose of this writing is to show how the knowledge already developed by previous efforts of man, contained and presented to Western thought in Theosophical awareness and Occult Science, can be used to assist conclusions that have been reached by men and women working in modern science. The main area of discussion is in physics and cosmology.
This work should be regarded merely as a hypothesis, but where there is recognition of possibility it may be worthy of further consideration and in such manner perhaps of use. No view is ever a certainty but simply indicates a possibility of greater knowledge from which all life benefits.

The practical study of the single particle of matter we term an atom and the considerable work associated with it, has very definitely had a major affect on this planet and all human life, regardless of their location. As yet this study is in its infancy and there are vast areas of regard that have still to be considered.
That this knowledge can be misused is obvious, but the potential for its constructive application is also apparent. The choice we have is how to apply what we find. The result will be our future gift to humanity.

One of the major participants in the regard of physics and to a certain extent mathematics was Albert Einstein. With considerable effort, alone, but in relative proximity to other men working in similar fields, he developed and presented ideas that were radically new to Western thought but clearly comprehended to greater levels by others in the East.
During the period of his working life Theosophical thought was freely available in Europe and contained much that would have been of great use. However Einstein does not appear to have been aware of this body of knowledge, or if so not prepared to utilise it in conjunction with his own considerations.
This resulted in considerable awareness not being developed to full potential. Such limitation can easily be seen in his work but in no manner should what he achieved be disregarded. His work was and is important but as further understanding in physics is achieved there will appear inconsistencies in his conclusions.

In regarding Occult science there is a fundamental base upon which it is built and although it appears to be simple, this is definitely not the case.

ENERGY ---- MOTION ---- MATTER

It is the view of Occult science that these are three known conditions beyond which nothing exists. None are natural principals existing independently of each other, although at first sight this may no appear to be the case. All are the united effects of the "One Life" or the "One Element"
Nothing exceeds these three states. This science works with magnetism and electricity.
These are seemingly simple understandings but are nevertheless of absolute importance in the comprehension and application of this vast body of knowledge. Everything we see is the union of energy with matter that produces the motion we know as light.
This could be regarded as a universal constant.

From a single particle of matter, to man, a planet, solar system or galaxy, all display the grouping of energy, motion and matter in various states of concentration.
The variation of form when there is a natural release of energy through matter, a process that is occurring constantly, produces what is called force. Force is the energy of a particular body or form of matter that is radiated away from it.
As our visible universe is constructed from bodies of form, it is not difficult to see the importance of force, which is merely a specific aspect of energy.

For ease of relating occult science to modern physics the original concept of --

ENERGY -- MOTION -- MATTER
can be regarded instead as
FORCE -- MOTION -- MATTER

The activity of force in contact with matter produces the effects of light, magnetism, heat, chemical affinity, and electricity. These affects can be extremely subtle and may occur in frequencies that for the normal human eye or instrumentation is impossible to detect.

Einstein believed that light had a constant speed when considering the form nature of matter and to a certain extent was correct. Given the nature of the form being considered, namely a single particle of dense physical matter, it was a reasonable view. However light is not dependant on this condition of matter for expression and as new refinements that tend towards substance are encountered it is inevitable that this constant built upon a probability will be found to have two results.
The special theory of relativity developed by Einstein relating light to a constant condition or speed, only takes into account a single condition of matter and is therefore lacking in completeness, it does however indicate a path open to vast and totally absorbing knowledge.

Classical physics, upon which many advances necessary for our development is based, and which includes the work of Einstein, is built not upon a certainty but rather a probability. The more the probability occurs, the more we become inclined to the view that it is a certainty.
This is a fundamental flaw of science. No condition can cause a probability, no matter how often it appears, to become anything other than what it is - a probability.

All human endeavours have been to seek certainty in whichever direction is chosen, this certainty is Truth. No one by reasons of existence can claim such certainty, although glimpses of it may be seen or sensed. Classical science will remain limited as long as it regards probabilities as certainties or conditions itself to disregard this point entirely.

Classical physics holds many understandings and has been a necessary first step to provide stimulation for the more recent regard in physics - Quantum physics.

At the turn of last century, in working with single particles of matter, Max Plank began to recognise the movement of light within the structure and found that when light interacts with matter the energy of the light appears to be concentrated in packets or quanta, called photons. He also found that there appeared to be a pulse to these photons of light.

This work of great brilliance was done with limited equipment and huge determination. His understanding was available to Einstein who instead focused his attention on the electron rather than the complete unit of atomic matter. This work was significant although it has led to the unfortunate situation where the separate charge of energy given off by the electron has been considered almost more important than the primary source at the nucleus of the atom upon which the electron is dependant.

Playing with this latter energy rather than attempting to comprehend it produces radioactivity, an achievement of doubtful constructiveness. Now the planet and all life upon it are confronted with thousands of tons of highly toxic radioactive material that can take up to 100,000 years to stabilise. By working on the electron alone, and by simply smashing apart the nucleus or heart of the atom to create energy, we have created considerable planetary problems that will definitely have to be resolved in the future. Not a gift we should be proud of even if the reasons seem justified. This is an extremely limited view of energy with dangerous consequences and which should very obviously cease. No race ensures its future with such reckless disregard of its actions.

Other men of vision however took up Max Planck's work and Neils Bohr presented a shape of this understanding with the development of quantum mechanics.
Basically the attempt was centred on the ability to regard the flow of energy from the nucleus of the atom to the electron and then attempt to predict the orbital location of the electron.
The results concluded that the orbit of an electron varied and its possible location could only be determined by the variation of its path. If the electron was looked for on this path of potential orbits it could be found. The path of potential orbits appeared as a waveform and when the atom was studied in this manner the outcome was the basis of quantum mechanics.

This essentially states that electrons do not have precisely defined locations and speeds and must be considered from what is called their "wave function" The continuation of this concept has created an understanding that all matter, that is all forms we can see, are affected by this activity.
This concept marks a massive step in regard from classical physics which sees matter in a static manner, to one where matter can be observed as energy flows into and out from it.

The question now before science is -

"What is represented by this activity?"
"What can be learned in its observation?"

A very fundamental regard of a process which is continually going on in all forms and one which is of significance to each of us even if the study of science and physics is not one of our abilities. Science is merely one of the areas of human ability, it is not separate but instead holds as position where many seemingly unrelated understandings can unite. This is particularly valid where the new considerations of quantum physics are being developed.
Philosophy, political and social structure, economics, etc., all can gain greatly from the work done on the consideration of an atom. Is not man an atom, or our planet, or solar system? The science of physics is not some unrelated field of endeavour that we should ignore and consider separate from our other activities. The positive advantages of intelligent consideration into the work being done in quantum physics will greatly benefit this planet.

The principal difficulty for both schools of physics, classical and quantum has been to find the common bond to each. Although both work with energy the results are often at variance to each other.
This situation can be resolved with ease by clearly regarding what is being looked at and knowing that both are simply considering differing points of the whole.
Classical physics intelligently regards the combination of motion and matter. Quantum physics is looking at the combination of force and matter.

As according to occult science, force-motion-matter, are all inter related it is not without reason to consider a way of expressing these two related fields of physics as one expression either by geometrical shape or mathematical formula. This is indeed possible and will definitely be achieved by man in the future opening up areas of human potential that all will gain from considerably.
However for the present much more work needs to be developed in regard of the "wave function" for it is here we will begin to recognise the cyclic nature of energy, its frequency or force, strength, effect either colour or sound, and all the other activities we have yet to understand. Correctly developed and brought into union with each other both approaches will produce significant abilities for the human kingdom.

Working with energy is part of the destiny of man and the regard of the importance of this activity is always reflected in our actions. Many men and women working in these areas of endeavour clearly begin to comprehend the Divine nature of energy. They have gifted to the human kingdom their patience, courage, humour and insight, which simply indicates the great beauty and future possibility of human thought.
The circumstances of their work are clearly indicative of the greatness of the human spirit.
