The Ageless Wisdom is one of the many names given to a large body of knowledge developed over thousands of years by those men and women who recognised the unity of all life and made great effort to extend this awareness. Their work was patient and thorough, being directed towards the understanding of the Whole as it relates to the part, God to man, Spirit to form and considering all the energies and states of consciousness associated with these concepts. These people were termed sages or ones of great wisdom and have always been of major significance in the development of the human kingdom.
Not necessarily being recognised by the group or race they were associated with, their understandings can very frequently be seen in religious beliefs, social and cultural development and symbol forms. Often the group or race being unable to develop the awareness or understanding presented to them distorted the original idea greatly from its original intent. For this reason and to ensure that the knowledge did not become lost to the human kingdom, or misused, much was withheld. Only those men and women who showed the capacity to respond and the preparedness to make the effort were introduced to the greater wisdom.
Eventually it became known as "the hidden knowledge"However where the knowledge was successfully responded to and extended by individual people, they also became teachers and developed further understandings which was shared wherever possible. Their influence always had a considerable effect on the people or race that surrounded them and often their work could easily be seen well beyond their time and location.
Although the work of Plato is probably not familiar to many people in today's world, his influence had a considerable effect on our development and clearly shows a man who had an extremely thorough understanding of the Ageless Wisdom.
In the world we presently live in, where our attention and focus is brief and limited, where the understandings of the nature of man and life seem so unimportant, where all we can do is survive and look with fear at the possibility of not being able to do so, these men of great wisdom walk quietly in our midst. They do not proclaim who they are nor attempt to sell their knowledge. Their work has always been to uplift the human kingdom and encourage the light of conscious wisdom in all who can hear.
The Ageless Wisdom is a very practical inheritance, freely available now as it has always been to the human kingdom.
Until recently in our history the major part of this knowledge was maintained by an extremely small group of men in Northern India. These Elder Brothers and those few associated with them in other locations have worked ceaselessly to assist humanity in its development, particularly in the work to stimulate the mind. In the late 1800's these Brothers, recognising the rapidly developing levels of intelligence encouraged by the beginnings of mass education in the West, considered that it was possible to introduce a basic outline of the Ageless Wisdom. The potential of a new and developing mind, capable of responding to such knowledge on a large scale and constructively effecting patterns of growth, was considered worth the effort.
This knowledge was not new to Western thought but had become restricted to secret societies and religious organisations who refused to make constructive use of it, instead preferring to seek power, either personal or group. This could only be described as an unusually short sighted and costly mistake. So in order to overcome this blockage a new approach was necessary.
A soul/personality that was more advanced than the average was "attracted" to these Brothers in India. This was H.P.Blatvitsky who after an extremely concentrated period of training returned to Europe to begin to release the basic outline of these understandings. Her first writing was Isis Unveiled and several years later the Secret Doctrine was produced. This was a massive effort of work which had an extremely damaging effect on her physically and from which she never recovered. Her writing produced an extremely hostile response from many of the more "developed" minds of that period but with the assistance of others who were more able to see the possibilities, the Theosophical Society was established, this rapidly spread over the following years to many countries. The intention behind this group of people was to encourage and develop further understanding, becoming essentially a centre where the Ageless Wisdom could be taught. The parent body remained in India.
In the initial years, many people with developing clear minds were attracted to this group and much promising work was achieved. Highly constructive writing appeared and any good Theosophical Library that can be located is well worth the visit. Unfortunately this group eventually became over come by struggles for power and those interested only in intellectual development. Now in some countries where it still exists the present interest is centred in Paganism and psychic phenomena. Not all experiments are successful.
In order to develop to its full potential the Western mind needs to comprehend the Ageless Wisdom, even if only from an extremely limited point of view, and it was with this understanding that further attempts were made to introduce the knowledge.
Dr. Annie Besant, having a well developed ability of mind and brain, became the next person attracted to the group in India and eventually returned to write a very clear presentation of the knowledge which is well worth reading. However the most complete presentation of the Wisdom knowledge, suitable for Western thought and directly related to the necessary developments of mind that we are destined to achieve by our efforts, is the work of Alice A. Bailey.
This very comprehensive and mentally challenging work indicates clearly the knowledge we need for our future development and also reflects a mind of great Love and Light which displays gentle humour, understanding and patience. There have been other writers who have made considerable effort to bring the knowledge of the Ageless Wisdom to the attention of Western thought and without difficulty their work can be found.
No understanding should ever be regarded as the final word on this subject, each of us are responsible for building the Light of mind within the human kingdom. This can only be achieved by our work individually and collectively as we explore the limitless understandings within the knowledge that unites all.
Within the Wisdom knowledge there is essentially two approaches. One which relates to the various levels of consciousness and their inter-relationship, whilst the other focuses more on working with energy. This latter is probably best described as Occult Science. The term "occult" is one which is not new to many people but still presents a conflict of ideas. Occult in essence means "existing, but not immediately perceptible" Although it is frequently associated with magic, witchcraft and alchemy, this is an absolute debasement of what is really represented by the word.
Occult science is established upon the awareness that nothing exists beyond three known conditions. Matter Motion Force
Nothing can exceed these three states, although the effects can be recognised. All is energy in activity. Occult science works with magnetism and electricity. This view is reflected in modern scientific thought but is limited to a rather static regard of matter and a restricted concept of Force.
All work with energy follows well understood Universal Laws which is the basis of occult science. Even though it would be denied by what we call scientific thought that there is any association, men and women in this field of endeavour work with a parent body of knowledge they have yet to recognise.
Until this happens science remains compelled to study the form only a small aspect of energy takes. There is no magic nor are there miracles, merely the intelligent ability to work with the "One Law" and the "One Element" which is the expression of the "One Life"
In the view of occult science absolute rest is inconceivable in matter, and motion in whatever form it may appear, whether as light, heat, magnetism, chemical affinity or electricity is simply a phase of the "One Force" If gravity is considered it will be seen as the result of the Universal Law of magnetism or attraction and repulsion, being therefore related to a particular aspect of force. The future science available to the West cannot be developed if the work of thousands of years is ignored.
Simply because a particular approach does not fall within a limited criteria, however necessary this has been to establish a scientific outlook, a disregard of the work and understanding already achieved by the human kingdom would be extremely short sighted. The duty of Western scientific thought is to develop further understandings and application of what is already known, not to arrogantly disregard this knowledge by assuming the abilities of mind are a recent event in our history. The present trend in science towards cloning and genetic manipulation, with arguments presented in theology and philosophy to indicate the acceptability of such activity, in reality shows a body of thought that is increasingly becoming either blind or hostile to its significant responsibilities and responding beyond its capacities to public demands.
Future science will work and intelligently develop those understandings achieved by men and women of great ability whose knowledge is contained in the Ageless Wisdom.
With patience we wait.
| FORCE | MOTION | MATTER |
| LIFE | CONSCIOUSNESS | FORM |
| SPIRIT | SOUL | PERSONALITY |
none of these are natural principles existing independently of each other. All are united effects of the "One Life"
May the beauty of Life be seen by all who seek.
